Gentlegorse Dackel is dedicated to the enjoyment and breeding of Teckels. The dogs represent a unique blend of UK and European bloodlines, are both devoted companions and enthusiastic partners in all manner of dog sports, and are nationally loved for both their talent and beauty.

Strictly speaking, a Teckel is any dachshund but in Britain, it usually means the working wire-haired variety. In their (my!) native Germany, all dachshunds are called Teckels - and that includes dachshunds of all coat types and sizes. Teckels are small dogs with a big personality.
Their mischievous and charming nature makes them one of the best country home dogs and amazing companions. And they can compete for prowess when ratting with terriers. They make reliable stalking dogs too.

Here at Gentlegorse Dackel, we live and breathe Teckel. Their furry face and comical character are a delight to have around. They are incredibly loyal and loving, taking part in our busy farming life or accompanying me to work at my vet practice. They are more than happy to join bike rides with the kids or just have a snooze by the fire in the winter.

My passion for Teckel began at the very young age of 10 and I always wanted to have a wire-haired Dachshund. Only 30 years later my dream came true when I convinced my husband to start with two miniature smooth Dachshunds, shortly followed by three wire-haired standard Teckel.

I breed for the love of the breed and to focus on the best genetics. Breeding from the best is my aim!

All of my dogs are very much a part of the family, they live within our family home (and sleep in our beds). They have excellent temperaments and are very well socialised.

A wonderful feature here on “The tenacious teckel” recently published on “The Field” website makes for great further reading!

Our Story:

I am a small animal vet with my own vet practice near Cirencester. Away from the vet practice, I help my husband on the family cattle farm. We have two young boys, who are as devoted to our dogs, cattle, chicken, horses, cats… as my husband and I am. Animal needs come before ours. Animal welfare has the highest priority.

Our family has been raising healthy and happy, fully health-tested smooth miniature Dachshunds and standard wire-haired Dachshunds since 2020 from our home in Oxfordshire. I am a council-approved and Kennel Club assured breeder.
