Our Story…
Hello!
Hello! We are ‘Farmer Matt’ and ‘Mrs Farmer Martina’, the husband and wife team at Gorse Farm. We took on the farm in 2017 and are supported by two mini farmers (George and Felix) and a menagerie of small animals. The farm’s main focus is our herd of beef cattle but we also sell our own eggs, honey, pork produce and seasonal flowers (Dahlias!) at the farm gate. All nicely presented in a little wooden self-service shop, decorated with some fairy lights and a scented candle. Our customers love this unique shopping experience!
Martina was born in Germany and worked in Hannover for eight years as a vet before meeting Matt. Matt was born and bred in Little Coxwell, studied agriculture at Wye College and then joined the British Army, where he attended the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst to begin his officer training. After 16 years in the Forces Matt returned to the family farm.
Gorse Farm is a third-generation family farm and our main focus is our herd of beef cattle known as ‘The Oxford Reds’, which give us a lot of pleasure and pride. Due to the mix of herbs, legumes and grasses, Gorse Farm leys don’t require any artificial fertiliser or chemicals, only rain and sunshine. You can find out more about our Oxford Reds here.
We have recently started keeping pigs, which will complement our current product offerings. They free range in our woods.
Martina is a keen baker and bakes sourdough baguettes on a Sunday and cookies when time allows, all available in the Farm Shop.
